Mediated celebrity provides a heuristic that traverses a range of issues that cut to the quick of lived contemporary life, including film, the popular press, television, fashion, sports, blogging and social media, the spread of the American vernacular, the Arab Spring, China’s Internet culture, and much else. The Symposium on ‘Mediated Celebrity’ is an event that is part of the Opening Festival of the Creative Media Centre of City University of Hong Kong, and brings together researchers in the fields of cinema, English studies, fashion, and gender studies for a two-day colloquium that explores celebrity as a cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural area of academic investigation and discourse.
