The Magic Shadow Boys 2000, a German-Swiss group, team up with Bernd Lintermann from ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany to provide the visuals for a spectacular and unprecedented evening of dance entertainment. Combining new media art with VJing (a VJ is the visual equivalent of a DJ), they develop a strong attraction that contrasts graphical rhythm-based symbolism and cinematic imagery. Accompanied by cutting-edge music from Hong Kong’s AreFriendsElectric?, providing a mix of thumping Bass, Electro, Funk and House, they together offer a preview of the parties of the future, creating a dynamic real time audio-visual 3D kaleidoscope that enthrals its spectators and inspires its dancers.

Oliver Wrobel (Germany)

Oliver Wrobel (born 1979) is a German graphic designer and founding member of the VJ-collective “Magic Shadow Boys 2000” since 2006.

The Magic Shadow Boys is a German- and Swiss-based group of visualists who try to bridge music, film and imagery.

Their approach is to compose abstract compilations of various visual outputs, such as cinematic quotation, graphic elements or even very basic components like plain colours or simple movement to create a new level of meaning in interaction with the sound.

The Magic Shadow Boys has performed alongside the likes of Karl Bartos (Kraftwerk), Âme, Vienna Scientists, Carl Craig, Mark Stewart and Angie Reed. Their activities also include the research of new technology in the field of visual story-telling and narration and teaching activities such as the conduction of various workshops on the Faroe Islands in 2010.

AreFriendsElectric? (Hong Kong)

“AreFriendsElectric?” (AFE) is a Hong Kong based DJ collective, fusing the innovative new sounds of Bass, Electro, Funky, Dubstep, House, Techno, Trance and everything in between. Over the years, we have noticed all too often how many club nights only focus on just one genre of music, and are all too concerned with playing what’s supposed to be hot and hip and safe without taking risks to push the boundaries a little further. Call them old-schoolers, but they want to take it back to a time when DJs would constantly blur the lines between genres throughout their sets, when challenging the ears was as important as filling up the floor. By throwing exciting monthly parties at various local venues, AFE has been quickly gaining recognition as one of the most cutting edge sounds of the local underground dance scene.
